School Overview

CICS West Belden, a Chicago International Charter School managed by Distinctive Schools, serves about 500 K-8 students, 96% of whom qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In this school, technology-based, multi-age, collaborative, and student-driven learning accelerates academic achievement and prepares students for the complex challenges of the 21st century. CICS West Belden was the recipient of a $100,000 grant from Breakthrough Schools: Chicago in 2014, which allowed the school leaders to redesign the school's learning model around four principles of personalized learning: learner profiles, personalized learning plans, competency-based progression, and flexible learning environments. These core principles guide CICS West Belden leaders and teachers as they seek to ensure that all students become independent, self-motivated, authentic learners.
