Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

Lab rotation to accelerate underperforming students. Out model changed to support content-specialists and small group pullouts, and the lessons learned impacted how we use technology in our general-education classrooms once we purchased additional hardware.

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

It's difficult to have the data systems talk to each other, and often the teacher and student dashboards are misaligned. How many points or flying pigs or three stars equals mastery? We have students track data by hand to show their progress in a data folio.

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

Start small, experiment, and know that it's okay to fail. Start off with the important systems and structures needed to make a technology-rich environment successful.
