Implementation Q & A

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

When virtual education was approved in Indiana in 2008, there was a requirement that more than 50% of the instruction had to occur face-to-face. As a result, the initial programs launched as blended learning schools instead of fully virtual.

School Overview

K12 Inc. offers a number of full-time and part-time options for students who want to learn online. One of its increasingly popular options is the two-day blended model, where students work two days a week from a learning center with face-to-face instruction and the other three days from remote locations. In 2007, it partnered with Ball State University to create its first school of this type. Hoosier Academies is a public charter school with learning centers in Indianapolis that are tuition free.
