Implementation Q & A

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

I would strongly encourage a team of teachers to analyze the digital content. Create lead teachers who can champion the advantages of using Blended Learning Strategies. I would make sure the data points provide you with a clear method of grouping the students. Finally, I would make sure the entire grade-level cohort is uniform in the implementation of Blended Learning. Make sure the classroom arrangement, resources, and schedule all mirror each other.

School Overview

Quitman Street Community School is a PK-8 school that serves a wide array of students. In order to best accommodate the students' multiple learning styles, Quitman encourages instructional practices that promote classroom learning centers tailored to the needs of the students. In Fall 2013, Newark Public Schools' district leadership approached Quitman with an opportunity to pilot a blended-learning program. The school eagerly accepted the district's offer because blended learning aligns with Quitman's school mission and belief in tailored learning centers.
