The biggest obstacle has been monitoring student attendance while they are working remotely. It can be difficult to gauge how much time the student learning remotely actually spends working. Aventa has time clocks to monitor students and Apex Learning can tell when students are inactive for even 30 seconds. The school monitors student by how much work they are completing in the day, the quality of the work, and they rely on parents and guardians as well.
A.B. Graham Academy is a state chartered conversion school that focuses on using both a virtual curriculum and a family school component to allow both parents and students more control over the learning process. Since its inception in 2009, the school has grown to serve over 100 students, the majority of whom work on their coursework remotely.

Each spring, students in grades two through eleven take a STAR test. The STAR Program looks at how well schools and students are performing. Students take tests in math, reading, writing, science, and history. Teachers and parents can use test results to improve student learning. The STAR Program includes four tests: the California Standards Tests, the California Modified Assessment, the California Alternate Performance Assessment, and the Standards-based Tests in Spanish.
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System was established on January 1, 2014. The CAASPP System replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program, which became inoperative on July 1, 2013.
