Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

The Station Rotation Model was not unlike other classroom activities like "Centers". The model provides students with regular time with the teacher in a small group, time for independent work, and time using the software. It provides a good balance.

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

Selecting curriculum was a big challenge as we knew we had current curriculum that was serving the students well. After researching, we determined that we would invest in support curricula, and utilize the curricula we already owned more effectively.

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

Plan thoughtfully and create the program that is right for your school.

School Overview

Immaculate Conception School is a PK-8 school located in a suburb of Minneapolis. Immaculate Conception was founded on faith, academics, and service and these three principles define the school today. The student population of Immaculate Conception is diverse and has a great variety of needs. The leaders and teachers at Immaculate Conception chose to implement a blended-learning program in the 2014-15 school year because they believed that students would benefit greatly from the increase in educational technology, an intentional school culture, and more sophisticated data-driven instruction.
