Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

Station-rotation model is the best fit for our campus. Our model has never changed as we have been on the same campus for about 16 years.

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge is the teacher buy-in. If an effective professional training is provided for teachers and a follow-up plan, it will increase the amount of use.

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

It's essential to know the characteristics of teachers before starting a full implementation. Sufficient training, teacher buy-in, and obviously the technology/facility are pillars for an effective implementation.

Select up to two focus areas you feel that you demonstrate leadership in, and tell us why here:

Professional development and effective implementation. As mentioned above, those are essential in establishing an effective system of blended learning environments.

ABOUT MAGNOLIA SCIENCE ACADEMY 1

MSA 1 is part of a Charter Management Organization (CMO) that operates ten tuition-free public charter schools across California that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) based teaching to ensure its students are well-rounded and college-ready from day one. We offer smaller class sizes, more attention from teachers, as well as safe campuses that foster ideal learning conditions for our students.

Magnolia Science Academy 1 is known for successfully supporting students through Innovation, Connection, and Excellence. MSA1 provides a high-performing, STEAM-focused public school option to Low-Income and High-Need Communities. MSA 1 outperforms their neighborhood public schools, achieves prestigious honors in competitions, and sends students to top colleges.

OUR MISSION
Magnolia Science Academy 1 provides a college preparatory educational program emphasizing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) in a safe environment that cultivates respect for self and others.

OUR VISION
Magnolia Science Academy 1's vision is to graduate students who are scientific thinkers that contribute to the global community as socially responsible and educated members of society.

OUR TEACHERS
All teachers at MSA1 go the extra mile for their students; even visiting the homes of our students through our Home Visit Program to do whatever is possible to ensure our students perform at their best.

It is no wonder many of our parents, who themselves are quite involved in their children's academic careers, have given us top ratings among charter schools.

WHY YOU SHOULD PICK MSA 1?

Students throughout all Magnolia Public Schools (MPS) campuses use technology daily at school and at home as a tool to work collaboratively with each other and communicate with teachers. We challenge their minds, and foster an environment where students want to learn, whether that is through our science labs, or our robotics projects and competitions. At Magnolia Public Schools (MPS) we place great emphasis on STEAM education, as it will give our students an advantage in their college and career plans. Students at Magnolia Public Schools (MPS) also participate in a variety of school activities and clubs including technology & engineering, language & culture, community service, and visual & performing arts.

We are looking for great minds who want to learn. With the help of our teachers, principals, staff, and of course parents, we aim to prepare our students to succeed in whatever educational and career paths they choose.
