The Marcus 9th Grade Center adds another dimension to a traditional A La Carte blended-learning program by giving students the option to take courses either in a face-to-face classroom, fully online from their own devices, or in a blended environment. The blended courses are designed to offer students additional flexibility in their schedules, so the classes meet at school only two days per week; on these days, students work in small groups or with their teachers to master the course material. On the other three days of the week, students complete online coursework created or selected by their teachers. If a student elects to take a fully online course, the student can complete the work at home or in the school building, but the teacher of record is online. The A La Carte program allows students to select a learning environment that meets their individual needs and gives them the greatest chance to succeed. Teachers that have both blended and traditional classes say that the students in their blended classes outperform the students in their traditional classes, thanks to the highly personalized instruction that the blended model offers.
