A Nexus Academy education combines elements of virtual classes or tools with elements of traditional face-to-face instruction to allow students to work at their own pace, master the material, and meet their personal learning goals. Each student comes to the Nexus Academy campus for four four-hour sessions per week and completes online lessons for approximately 12 hours off campus. When students are on campus, they begin their day with an advisory period in which they meet with their Success Coaches to partake in collaborative activities and college skill-building work. Following the advisory period, students attend small-group English language arts and math classes to work with certified teachers to master the curriculum. Students have the ability to complete their online coursework and virtual classes either from Nexus Academy's campus or from an off-campus location; when the students are on campus, they work in 'team zones' under the guidance of their Success Coaches. Each student has a dynamic personalized learning plan based on his or her strengths, needs, and goals that is continually adjusted based on his or her performance and preferences. Success Coaches are the key to the holistic approach to education at Nexus Academy, as they use data to create personalized action plans for students, facilitate communication between all participants in the educational process (online teachers, face-to-face instructors, students, parents, etc.), track students' progress, and assist students with assignments.
