Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

Our model has not changed. We use various models across our classrooms. Depending on the subject matter and the interests of the students, we can be flexible enough to make tweaks and changes as necessary. In order for our students to really be able to own their education completely, we have let go of all control and trust the students. Our use of various models puts that ownership in the hands of the students.

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

Our biggest challenge was having our guides stop answering questions. We enlisted the help of students to call out guides when they answered questions.

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

Be willing to try different things in order to figure out what works best for your environment. It is ok to get it wrong the first time. Same advice we give our students- It is ok to fail. Trying is what is important.
