Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

In our first year, we implemented a general rotational model of blended learning because it is a more basic model and we wanted to experiment with it. After our first year, we decided to implement a more personalized blended-learning model with our older students in order to ensure that they receive the full benefits of the online content.

School Overview

Encompass Academy is a public school in the Oakland Unified School District that serves primarily low-income children in East Oakland. Its slogan, 'Starts with Self, is Guided by Families, Engaged in Community, and Rooted in Ancestors,' summarizes the school's whole-child philosophy. Minh-Tram, the school's principal, is focused on perfecting the balancing act between building deep relationships with students, families, and the community alongside maintaining a data-driven instruction approach. EnCompass Academy is one of eight schools in the Oakland Unified School District that has received a Rogers Foundation grant to implement blended learning.
