Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

We initially chose a flex model. Some of our students have attendance struggles and personal situations that make regular, consistent attendance difficult. We needed a way to provide meaningful, rigorous content to students in a manner that allowed for acceleration and flexibility. The learning was not altered, it's fixed. The time it takes to become proficient became the variable we altered.

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

We don't have just one LMS-we have pieces from multiple vendors and definitely need integration.

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

Giving students control over pace doesn't mean that there's no pace. Minimum benchmarks help to keep things going. Also, students still need guidance and support that only a brick and mortar school can provide.
