Our district was going to bring a 1:1 program to our schools, but we knew that technology wasn't going to achieve all of our goals overnight. We needed to pair the technology with an instructional program that would help us meet our goals of increasing student engagement and choice, increasing academic interaction with peers, and building time management and problem solving skills. So we teamed up with LearnSTEMic (formerly Dellicker Strategies) to change our instruction in a way that would hit those goals.
We have come across two main challenges while going blended. The first is getting our teachers on board in changing their instruction. How we've overcome this is supporting "early adopters" who can work to get everyone else excited about the transformation.
The other challenge would be getting the students on board as well – older students who haven't been exposed to blended learning before are used to learning in a more traditional style. The stations force them to "have their brains on" for the whole class period. It's really just a matter of talking with them and making them realize that they don't need to be "spoon-fed."
