Implementation Q & A

When you first implemented blended learning, why did you choose that particular model? (has your model changed? why?)

We realized that we are not serving the students well enough, each with different needs.

What was one of your biggest challenges when going blended, and how did you overcome it?

Logistics: grouping students, scheduling.
Making individual schedule for student every week took too much.
Solution: Giving students some say in their own schedule.

What's the one piece of advice you'd give to emerging blended-learning programs?

Using in-house expertise to support each other.
Focus on Professional Development time.

School Overview

Design Tech High School is a free public charter school open to residents of California. Entrance is by lottery when the number of students seeking enrollment exceeds the number of spots available. The school was founded in 2014, and the first class of seniors will graduate in 2018. The Oracle Education Foundation recently selected d.tech to become the first public high school to have a new state-of-the-art campus funded by a Silicon Valley company.
