We created our own unique model. We knew we wanted to do Mastery Leaning but managing the logistics manually seemed daunting. Technology was the answer. Digital Mastery Learning was born!
Students: Students expect the learning to be managed by the teacher. Asking them to take more responsibility was a difficult adjustment for them but quite honestly isn't that more important than the content?
Teachers: Lot's of resistance, criticism and disbelief. Strong opposition. We have yet to convince our district to expand this model but two year's worth of data showing unprecedented growth is hard to ignore.
Question and reject what the education establishment sells as "Best Practice." To often educators fall in love with processes that do not deliver results. Have the courage to step out of the way and make student learning not teacher teaching the centerpiece of the classroom. Have a clear data collection plan to show growth and get ready for amazing results.
Encouraging students to move beyond their comfort zones, try harder than they ever had and believe that you only fail when you quit. A leader empowers their subordinates and inspires them to do their best work.
