We started with ipads and now many classrooms have chromebooks. My room has 16 older PCs, but I prefer the speed and space of Ethernet connected desktops over smaller devices.
Many students do not have access to internet or technology at home. It seems like more students are getting internet. We are going to experiment with checking out ipads with downloaded books and offline Google docs in the near future. Also, some apps like Quizlet will work on student phones.
I'd suggest having a clear focus on student outcomes and avoid getting dazzled by the wide array of apps and programs out there.
Reading - student self selected reading in myon.com - hundreds of hours read, highly scaffolded supports = Graphic novels, audio read aloud, very wide range of lexiles, high interest subjects for middle school students
French Prairie Spartans Rock!
French Prairie Middle School is a traditional 6th – 8th grade setting. Located at the junction of Boones Ferry Rd and Newberg Hwy 214. On the site of the first schoolhouse erected in 1891, the west side school was considered in its day one of the most outstanding educational structures in the Willamette Valley and compared well with Salem schools of the same date. French Prairie Middle School was named after a claim settled by Bradford Bonney, who in 1849 settled on this French Prairie area now known as Woodburn.
